Vocal types......
A ROCK & ROLL FUN SHOP - 4 classic rock and roll tunes in 4 different keys. This is written in 2 different levels of difficulty, dependent on the individuals ability. An intro and ending are provided to give a a bit of polish.
NOT A CLOUD IN THE SKY - Based on the popular tune Blue Skies. This singalong type workshop covers some chords with harmony rundowns. It is offered in 2 keys to add a bit of variety, and also offers some 2 part vocals.
ANYTHING GOES - Based on a popular song of the same name. A bouncy and syncopated rhythm. Offered in 2 keys and a variety of performance styles. At one point there are no Uke’s, just voices accompanied in a Gospel inspired clapping accompaniment.
RAINING IN MY HEART - Featuring a song of the same name made famous by the late great Buddy Holly. A beautiful tune that is a must for those that like to sing as well as play the Uke. Lots of chords with harmony runs, and vocal harmony. To add a bit of variety, I offer a key change that all adds to a polished performance.
SING - Based on the ever popular hit song by the Carpenters. You may have played this song in a basic form previously. This workshop will add to that with some alternative chords and progressions, and modulate through 3 keys. If you like to play the Uke and sing along, this is for you.
SUMMER BREEZES - This is based on the song “The Summer Wind”. A beautiful song made famous by “Old Blue Eyes” himself and a must for those that like a ballad style of tune. There are 2 vocal parts as standard and a 3rd can be added for the more adventurous. For a bit of Variety there is also a change of key.
Technical types - However, not heavy in theory.
INTROS & ENDINGS - Just as important as the tune itself, I offer a variety of intros presented in 4 keys and different speeds. Instead of the typical 2 chord ending, I offer 5 if not 8 chords, dependent on the style of the piece you are performing. You will need to be proficient in doing Barre chords to get the most from this workshop.
SYNCOPATED PATTERNS - Derived from, but not restricted to, the multi talented George Formby. We will explore 3 right handed patterns he commonly used and then place them into a traditional Jazz tune. Either a Ukulele or Banjolele can be used. A good sense of rhythm would be a distinct advantage for this workshop.
AN INTRODUCTION TO PLAYING MELODY - Either utilising the tune “Whispering” OR "Bye Bye Blues.” Whether you are new to playing melody or wishing to add to your repertoire, this is for you. To get the most out of this workshop, you will need to be proficient with Barre chords, have a good sense of rhythm and up for a challenge. That said, I present it in small chunks and slowly construct it into a performance piece.
9 INTO 7 DOES GO - Exploring how to substitute popular 7th chords in to a 9th. Looking at four root 9th shapes and utilising them into a popular jazz tune “Five Foot Two”. You don’t need a degree in music to understand this workshop. However, you will require quite a strong and flexible left hand.
