Barry Gibb, un des Bee-Gees, écrit cette chanson pour duo tout d'abord pour Diana Ross et Marvin Gaie avant de la proposer à Kenny Rogers et Dolly Parton, qui l'enregistrent pour l'album de Kenny "Eyes That See in the Dark" (1983). Elle devient un méga-hit international.
Pour être honnête, peut-être je l'avais entendu à la radio à l'époque mais sans plus prêter attention. Je n'écoute pas bc de musique country.
Par contre, par hasard, recemment j'ai trouvé un duo de cette chanson par Rufus Wainwright et Petra Haden (une des filles de Charlie Haden) et que c'était bon! J'ai pensé que c'était une compo de Rufus et j'ai été tres surpris d'apprendre que cela venait d'un Bee-Gee. Une très belle chanson d'amour avec une harmonie et mélodie vraiment fantastique.
J'ai ensuite trouvé la v.o. par Kenny Rogers et Dolly Parton et celles des Bee-Gees... aucune d'elles m'ont touche autant que celle de Rufus et Petra. Peut-être car leur version me semble plus fun, vivante et engagée et le ton des voix plus à mon goût.. plus toute les mimes de Petra pendant son interprétation. On voit que le groupe se marre et passe un très bon moment ensemble.. ils sont tous sourires.
Mais, la question essentiel.. existe-t-il une version uke en duo qui vaut la peine?
et la réponse est... oui!
